Business Challenge
A European-based pharmaceuticals manufacturer had early warning intelligence about three other manufacturers plans to launch competitive offers to a flagship product. The company wished to test the impact of a variety of strategic options, particularly examining competitive response and possible changes to the competitors product launch plans.
Approach
Outward Insights applied its proprietary Competitor Response Modeling methodology to systematically explore the timing, intensity, and effect of competitors reactions to the pharmaceutical companys strategic options. We gamed how our clients planned efforts to minimize the impact of its competitors product introductions might elicit a market reaction. Further, we modeled a variety of competitor counter-tactics, assessing their impact on both their product launch plans and our clients competitive strategy.
Results
The pharmaceuticals manufacturer was able to further develop its protective strategies to take into account likely competitor responses. It assessed the competitors most likely to respond to its moves, and aligned resources against the most impactful competitive responses. Finally, it was able to confidently pursue intelligence-based strategies to protect its flagship product and its market leadership position.
